FOOTBALL IN HIGH HEELS: EAST SIDE, WEST SIDE, ALL AROUND THE STADIUM
I know I said I was going to do the ABCs of the NFL teams, but as I was working on that, I realized that there were more things about the game that I did not know. Raise your hand if you are surprised. ::waves and raises hand:: I am not surprised either. Every day, there is a new thing I learn and today it is the fact that there are divisions in the NFL. Here is a look at each division, each of which consists of four teams.
AFC EAST:
Founded: 1960
Teams: Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Jets.
AFC NORTH:
Founded: 1967
Teams: Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers
AFC SOUTH:
Founded: 2002
Teams: Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans
AFC WEST:
Founded: 1960
Teams: Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders.
NFC EAST:
Founded: 1967
Teams: Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins.
NFC WEST:
Founded: 1967
Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks.
NFC SOUTH:
Founded: 2002
Teams: Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
NFC NORTH:
Founded: 1967, with changes in 1970 and 2002
Teams: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings.
Now comes the question, what does all this mean? I am guessing the NFC and AFC are not like the Jets and the Sharks in West Side Story.
NFC: National Football Conference
AFC: American Football Conference
From what I understand each team in the division plays each other and then the top teams from both the NFC and AFC move on to the Super Bowl.
Okay, so in my mind, it is like the Celebrity Apprentice, except instead of being fired by The Donald, the teams just lose their chance at playing in the Super Bowl.
There are also no boardrooms and less drama, unless you count the drama around Tom Brady and his team’s balls.
