FOOTBALL IN HIGH HEELS: IRONMAN TRAINING AND FIRST TRIATHLON
You guys, I did it. I completed my first triathlon this morning. It was a very small, indoor triathlon and I didn’t do as well as I’d wanted, but the important thing is I DID IT!! This is the first of many before I complete the Ironman next year.
Thoughts:
Swimming: I am SO not strong on this one. I may not have mentioned this, but I haven’t even been swimming since Clinton was in office, so it was a HUGE challenge. However, in the allotted ten minute time, I was able to do five complete laps and one half lap. I probably could have done more, but I kind of lost my balance in the water and panicked a bit, which threw me off. Also, this was my first time in public in a bathing suit….on purpose in about ten years, so that in itself was pretty big for me.
Biking: As a spin instructor, this one was easy. However, they were using a new system I am not used to, so it kind of messed up with my time. We were able to get it straightened out so I had the correct distance recorded. All it really consisted of was seeing how far we went in 10 minutes on a spin bike. (2 miles)
Run: This was a ten minute treadmill run and I did just under a mile. I was able to increase my speed, which was the best part. I usually do a 4-4.5 on the treadmill, but today I was up to 6 at some points. My average for this run was between 5 and 5.5.
Where To Improve:
Swimming: TAKE LESSONS! I am obviously going to have to work on this if I want to do a 2.4 mile swim for the Ironman. I am going to probably take private lessons because I am not sure if my gym still offers adult swimming lessons. Either way, lessons are in my future.
Bike: Figure out their system, work on biking outdoors in the warmer weather.
Run: Work on speed, do more half and full marathons.
Overall, it was a good experience and I am more determined and excited than ever to do the Ironman! Thanks for your support!
