FEARLESS WOMAN FRIDAY: ADRIANNE HASLET-DAVIS
Adrianne Haslet-Davis is a professional ballroom dancer who lost her lower left leg during the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013. Since that day, she has traveled around the world as a public speaker, talking about that fateful day and how it changed her life. She shares her life lessons and hopes that she can help others overcome adversity in their own lives.
This year, Adrianne is actually running the Boston Marathon for the first time. (in 2013 she was a spectator) She reveals that the training has been taxing, wonderful and scary at the same time. During a recent chat, she revealed her training secrets, her diet and her progress so far.
Did You Know?: Adrianne was featured in a special episode of Dancing With The Stars and often did charity work with the show, having worked with Mark Ballas, Anna Trebunskya and Jonathan Roberts. She still does a lot of charity work, including being an ambassador for Limbs For Life.
Marathon Bound: Adrianne never used to be a runner. As of right now, she is trying to run 2-3 times a week, focusing on increasing her speed and stride rather than distance.
Other Training: She also does boxing and strength training in addition to her running, saying that the former helps her because you need to be quick on your feet while doing a marathon. (Since there are so many people running, bumping into people is inevitable, so boxing helps avoid this as much as possible.)
Diet: While training, Adrianne tends to stick to a regimented diet and eats as much as when she danced. She says that since she is burning a lot of calories, she will eat things such as wheat toast with tomato, egg and avocado, a tuna lettuce and tomato sandwich, pasta or pizza if she is running or a protein packed meal such as salsa with fish.
As for treats, she says she doesn’t have a lot of cheat food, and is more into foods like mashed potatoes and peanut butter for her treats. She admits she could eat a whole jar of peanut butter with a spoon. (crunchy is her fave, but will eat both.)
She also likes to make smoothies with frozen fruit, spinach, yogurt, lemon or orange juice.
Thank you to Adrianne and good luck with your run!
