WRESTLING IN HIGH HEELS: KAYFABING, BABYFACED WRESTLERS AND BEING A HEEL
Many people don’t know this, but I am a huge fan of wrestling. Okay, I watch mostly for the guys with cute butts wearing tight pants, but I do find it entertaining and interesting. Since I recently got more into the sport, I decided to share what I have learned about the sport, along with what I thought certain terms meant initially.
Kayfabe—What It Means: This is the portrayal of staged events within the industry that is “real” or “true” or staying in character during a show and at public appearances.
How I Interpret It: Staying in character and keeping it real.
What I Initially Thought It Meant: I have no clue…to me it sounded like some made up term.
Babyface: This is the name used for the good guy that everyone is rooting for.
How I Interpret It: The good guy, the equivalent of a Power Ranger.
What I Thought It Meant: The youngest looking wrestler. It also made me think of that singer from back in the 90s.
Heel: This is the name used for the bad guy.
How I Interpret It: The bad guy.
What I Thought It Meant: All this did was get You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch stuck in my head.
Pop: This is a huge cheer from the crowd.
How I Interpret It: The crowd going wild.
What I Thought It Meant: The type of music played. It also got that NSYNC song stuck in my head.
