BASKETBALL IN HIGH HEELS: NBA PLAYER GETS WAXED
San Francisco – March 24, 2016 – NBA champion and Golden State Warriors MVP point guard Stephen Curry met his wax double today when Madame Tussauds San Francisco joined the star athlete to reveal his new wax figure at the Marriott City Center in Oakland.
When asked about what it meant to see his wax figure for the first time, Curry said, “For me and my wife, it’s kind of a funny story. One of our first dates in LA, we went to the museum on Hollywood Boulevard. So that was one of our first experiences together, walking through and taking pictures with the wax figures at the museum, and now to have one of my own is pretty special.”
The figure immortalizes the 28-year-old athlete dribbling, sporting his Golden State Warriors jersey with the number 30 in honor of his father, who wore that number during his own basketball career. The figure features Curry’s four tattoos: his wife’s initial on his ring finger, the initials ‘TCC’ (Trust, Commitment and Care) and the number 30 on the inside of his left wrist, and Hebrew writing on the inside of his right wrist, which translates to “Love never fails.”
Curry’s wax figure took a team of artists and sculptors nearly four months to create at an estimated cost of $350,000. The process involved taking 250 measurements of the towering athlete to capture his exact replica.
Considering Curry’s incredible success and rapid rise to fame, it was only fitting that the three-time NBA All-Star was chosen to become the next wax figure at Madame Tussauds San Francisco. Curry is one of the Bay Area’s most beloved sports stars and currently holds the record for three-pointers in a season in both the NBA and NCAA.
“We are thrilled to add Bay Area NBA phenomenon Stephen Curry to our attraction,” says Chris Connors, General Manager of Madame Tussauds San Francisco. “I know his wax figure is going to be a huge hit with sports fans from around the nation who come to visit us.”
Curry’s figure will have a permanent position at the Madame Tussauds Fisherman’s Wharf location. Beginning March 25 through July 1, 2016, visitors who show their Warriors app at the attraction will receive 50 percent off admission or two for one.
