STANLEY CUP IN HIGH HEELS: TONIGHT’S GAME NEWS
STAMFORD, Conn. – June 5, 2017 – P.K. Subban and the Nashville Predators attempt to even the 2017 Stanley Cup Final at two games apiece tonight, when they host Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 4 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The Penguins lead the series 2-1. Pre-game coverage begins at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN with a special two-hour edition of NHL Live.
NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app – NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, tablets, and connected TVs – will provide streaming coverage of 2017 Stanley Cup Final.
Five-time Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member and analyst Eddie Olczyk, and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will provide commentary from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. This marks the 11th consecutive year that Emrick, Olczyk and McGuire will combine to call the Stanley Cup Final for NBC Sports.
Host Liam McHugh will anchor pre-game, intermission and studio coverage on-site throughout the series, alongside analysts and former players Mike Milbury and Keith Jones. In addition, Kathryn Tappen and Paul Burmeister and will host coverage from an outdoor set outside Bridgestone Arena, alongside analysts and former players Jeremy Roenick, Brian Boucher, and Anson Carter.
Game 3 of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final on NBCSN, in which the Predators defeated the Penguins 5-1 in Nashville on Saturday on NBCSN, averaged a Total Audience Delivery (TAD) of 3.033 million viewers, up 6% vs. last year’s Game 3, which went to overtime, between the Penguins and San Jose Sharks (2.859 million), according to Fast National Data from The Nielsen Company.
Locally, the game produced a 16.6 rating in Nashville to rank as the highest-rated Predators game ever on NBCSN in the market. Pittsburgh was the top-ranked market in the U.S. with a 22.2 rating.
Through three games, the 2017 Stanley Cup Final is averaging a TAD of 3.727 million viewers, up 18% vs. last year (3.148 million), and through three games stands as the best viewership for a Stanley Cup Final without an Original Six team since 1999 (Buffalo/Dallas; FOX/ESPN; 4.369 million). Through 81 games, the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs on the networks of NBCUniversal are averaging a TAD of 1.224 million viewers, up 9% vs. 2016 (1.127 million; 86 games).
Digitally, Game 3 was the third-most streamed NHL game ever, with 268,000 unique devices, 16.3 million live minutes, and an Average Minute Audience (AMA) of 80,000 viewers. So far, the three 2017 Stanley Cup Final games have totaled 468,000 unique devices and 50.7 million live minutes, up 41% and 40%, respectively, vs. 2016 Games 1-3.
Through 81 games, the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs have delivered a record 1.9 million unique devices and 480.3 million live minutes, up 21% and 29%, respectively vs. 2016. With tonight’s Game 4, streaming for the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs are expected to exceed 2 million unique devices and a half-billion live minutes, both records.
STANLEY CUP FINAL GAME 4 – PENGUINS-PREDATORS – TONIGHT AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBC
The Predators held serve at home with a dominant 5-1 victory in Game 3 in Nashville on Saturday night on NBCSN in the franchise’s first-ever Stanley Cup Final home game. Nashville erased a 1-0 deficit with three second-period goals en route to victory. Defenseman Roman Josi factored on all of the Predators’ three second-period goals (1g/2a). The 2017 Predators are the third team in NHL postseason history to boast four defensemen with at least 10 points (Josi, 14; Ryan Ellis, 12; P.K. Subban, 11; Mattias Ekholm, 10), joining the 1984 Edmonton Oilers and 1993 Los Angeles Kings.
Pittsburgh’s Jake Guentzel scored his 13th goal and 20th point of the playoffs in Game 3, and is now one goal and one point away from tying rookie records in both categories. He is the first player to score in Games 1-3 of the Stanley Cup Final in 20 years(Steve Yzerman; 1997). Game 3 also marked the first time ever that Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin did not record a shot on goal in a playoff game.
The Predators are now 8-1 at home this postseason, with their only loss coming in overtime against Anaheim in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final.
