Tour de France 2017: Stage 4
by Katie Haskins
Stage type: Road Race – sprint finish
Length: 207.5 km/128.9 miles
Route: Mondotf-les-bains, Luxembourg to Vittal, France
The race started with another quick stop in Luxembourg. It was realtively flat with only one Category 4 climb.
Only one rider went off the front of the race today. Guillaume Van Keirsbulck. He was caught with 16.6 km/10.4 miles left.
Everything happened within the last 5km of the race today. The speeds increased, there were two corners within 2km of the finish, and 2 crashes. The first one at 1.2 km/.7 miles remaining caught up the current leader of most of Team Sky.
The really nasty one was at 100m from the finish. Peter Sagan had his elbow out and caused Mark Cavendish to crash hard against the barriers. John Degaekolb then proceeded to run over Cavendish and flip over his handlebars.
Arnaud Demare of France won the stage in 4:53:54 and took the green jersey from Marcel Kittel who has been wearing it from day two.
Since the race had finished, Peter Sagan has been kicked out of the race for his part in the crash. He had won the green jersey for the past five years.
