Dancing With The Stars Athletes Recap for May 7, 2018

Hello and welcome to the Dancing With The Stars Athletes competition. This is week three of a four week event where ten athletes will compete for the mirror ball trophy.

Tonight will have the remaining six couples dance their individual dances and do a special dance off with previous contestants serving as mentors.

Season 24 runner up David Ross is a guest judge tonight.

We get started after a fun filled group dance.

Celebrity Athlete: Mirai Nagasu

Claim To Fame: Olympic figure skater

Pro: Alan Bersen

Dance: Quickstep

Song: “Bo$$” by Ray Chew Live

Sammi: All these bells and whistles with the other troupe dancers is distracting. It makes it hard to concentrate on the couple. When we finally get just the two of them, they do a good job, so why did we need them in the first place? They do well on their own and she really knows her choreography.

David: She killed it out there.

Len: She came out and full-on attacked it.

Bruno: He loves the energy of the dance.

Carrie Ann: She did really well. (Said in Japanese and English!)

Scores: 9-9-8-9=35 out of 40

Celebrity Athlete: Jennie Finch

Claim To Fame: Olympic Softball Player

Pro: Keo Mostepe

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Song: “The Rest of Our Life” by Tim McGraw & Faith Hill

Sammi: They have potential to do well.  I wish she were on a full season so we can see her reach said potential. She needs to let go more and not be so timid because she really has a grasp on the technique.

Len:  It was elegant, but he wants more fluidity.

Bruno: She did well, but needs to put more trust in her partner.

Carrie Ann: She wants to see her grow more and wishes this were a longer season.

David: He is impressed with her and proud of her dance.

Scores: 7-8-7-7=29 out of 40

Celebrity Athlete: Chris Mazdzer

Claim To Fame: Olympic Luge medal winner

Pro: Witney Carson

Dance: Foxtrot

Song: “I Got Rhythm” by Ray Chew Live

Sammi:  I love this dance, although I know they are going to get reamed for some of the extra tricks and a possible lift. I really love how they included his mom in the dance, it really made it that more special.

Bruno:  He was dazzle dazzled by the dance.

Carrie Ann: It was beautiful, but there was a lift.

David:  It was a great routine.

Len: It was great, but a bit wooden.

Scores: 8-9-7-9=33 out of 40

Celebrity Athlete: Tonya Harding

Claim To Fame: Olympic skater

Pro: Sasha Farber

Dance: Rumba

Song: “See You Again” by Tyler Ward

Sammi: I’m not crying….you’re crying!!! That was beautiful and her best dance. There is nothing else to say.

Carrie Ann: She danced with her heart and brought us into her corner.

David: He is very proud of her.

Len: There could have been more hips, but it was overall the whole package.

Bruno: Well done.

Scores: 8-9-8-8=33 out of 40

Celebrity Athlete: Adam Rippon

Claim To Fame: Olympic figure skater

Pro: Jenna Johnson

Dance:  Contemporary

Song: “O” by Coldplay

Sammi: Um, yeah…I think he just won with this dance. Nothing else needs to be said, except, welcome to the finals, baby.

David: He felt so connected and it is his favorite dance of the night.

Len: He offers some places to improve, but it is still the best dance of the night.

Bruno: He makes a Swan Lake comparison.

Carrie Ann: She thanks him for the pure perfection.

Scores: 10-10-9-10=39 out of 40

Celebrity Athlete: Josh Norman

Claim To Fame: NFL star

Pro: Sharna Burgess

Dance: Contemporary

Song: “Stand By Me” by Bootstraps

Sammi: Beautiful, perfect way to end this round. Contemporary is Sharna’s forte, and tonight was no exception. You could also feel all the emotion happening in this dance, which made it that much better.

Len: He liked it so much, well done!

Bruno: It was loving and reassuring.

Carrie Ann: That was a perfectly executed lift.

David: Smooth and beautiful

Scores: 9-9-9-9=36 out of 40
