As you know, I spent the past three days posting about the NFL Draft. It was a blast as usual, but now I am ready to get back to the topic I mentioned last week….my no spending challenge. Sadly, last week was so busy I ended up getting food and coffee on a couple of occasions. The coffee was purchased via gift card, but still….the point was to not purchase anything unless it was necessary. I could make the argument that coffee was necessary, but was it really? I have yet to decide…..
Anyway, this is a new week and I can start fresh. I will once again have a super busy week, but that is not going to be an excuse to spend money on things I don’t need. Yes, I need food, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be from a restaurant or fast food. My goal is to not spend any money at all.
This means going back to basics and packing enough food to eat throughout the day. It is sometimes difficult to bring a hot or perishable lunch, so the plan is to make healthy, but filling snacks to graze throughout the day. Some of my options:
Trail mix
Fruit
Cereal
Kind Bars
In order to prevent myself from getting too hungry, I plan to eat a bigger breakfast. My favorites include egg and rice with tomato and oatmeal with peanut butter.
As for coffee, the truth is, I drink WAY too much of it. This is the perfect time to cut back and get more water into my system. I plan to bring my water bottle with me and refill it throughout the day. I also plan to bring tea with me for days I need something to warm me up.
What are some of your favorite snacks and meals to make when you’re trying to save money? Let me know.
