NBC Announces Latest Olympic News for 2020

Paris Olympics 2024 Medal Winners Day 8

With less than five months until the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, NBC Sports presents live coverage of the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, this Saturday, Feb. 29 at Noon ET on NBC from Atlanta, Ga. The runners will begin and end the course at Centennial Olympic Park, while passing other memorable sites from the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

NBC Sports Gold’s “Track and Field Pass” will also provide live stream coverage of the three-hour event. Coverage of Olympic Sports on NBC Sports Group platforms is a presentation of Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA.

Nearly 700 athletes are expected to compete on Saturday, with the top three women and top three men named to the U.S. Olympic team. Two-time Olympic medalist Galen Rupp, who won the marathon bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and 10-time USATF champion, Leonard Korir, who participated in the 10,000m at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, headline the men’s field. Jared Ward, who finished sixth in the marathon at the 2016 Rio Olympics, also is a top contender.

Two-time Olympians Des Linden, who won the 2018 Boston Marathon, and Molly Huddle highlight the women’s field, along with Jordan Hasay, who finished third at the 2019 Boston Marathon and leads the Olympic Trials women’s field with the fastest qualifying time (2:20:57). In addition, five-time Olympic Trials participant Sara Halland Emily Sisson, who posted a sixth-place finish with a 2:23:08 in her distance debut at the 2019 London Marathon, are expected to contend.

Leigh Diffey will call the action, joined by distance analysts Craig Masback and 1984 British Olympian Tim Hutchings; American marathon record-holder and 2004 Olympic bronze medalist Deena Kastor, making her NBC Sports debut; reporter Lewis Johnson, who competed at the 1988 and 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials; and four-time Olympic medalist and analyst Ato Boldon. In addition, Tim Layden will present an essay during the coverage, and 2004 Athens Olympic silver medalist Meb Keflezighi will make a special appearance. Keflezighi is the only athlete in history to win the New York Marathon, Boston Marathon and an Olympic medal.

For the first time in marathon coverage, NBC Sports Group will also debut a new graphics look and system for this Saturday’s telecast, highlighting a more dynamic and robust display of timing and information throughout the race.

All coverage on NBC and NBCSN will stream on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. NBC Sports Gold will stream coverage live and on-demand, to desktops, mobile, tablets, and connected TV devices. “Track and Field Pass” can be purchased for $99.99 by visiting NBCSportsGold.com.
