8/17 – Red Sox @ Yankees

BASEBALL IN HIGH HEELS: TV ALERT

A wet night in the Bronx for the last game of this series between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.

Red Sox get their first batter on base thanks to a throwing error by Gleyber Torres, but will end the inning with a flyout and double play with nothing to show. Yankees don’t fare much better in the first inning. Two groundouts followed by three walks to load the bases before Miguel Andujar flies out.

But the Yankees would once again be first on the board as Aaron Hicks doubles allowing Tyler Wade to score from first and Luke Voit brings adds two more with a homer to center field. 3-0 Yankees.

Top of the fourth, Jordan Montgomery allowed three singles to load the bases before the rain delay. Luis Avilan replaced him after the almost hour and a half delay, immediately walking in a run before striking out Alex Verdugo and ending the Red Sox threat.

Thairo Estrada would add to the run total with a home run in the fourth into the visitors bullpen. Next inning, Voit goes deep again, increasing the Yankees lead, again.

Verdugo hits a ball to left field, Andujar having trouble getting to it. It bounces into the stands for a ground-rule double that would score another run for Boston. 5-2 Yankees lead.

Aaron Hicks joins the hit parade in the seventh with a home run that bounces off the front of the second deck.

Aroldis Chapman comes in for the Yankees in the ninth, his season debut after being put on the Covid-19 IL during summer camp. He gets his first batter to line out, but Jose Peraza triples to a ball to deep center field that sticks in the wet warning track near the wall. A double to Jonathan Arauz brings Peraza home. Chapman would finish off the inning with back to back strikeouts.

Yankees win 6-3 and sweep the series.

The Red Sox have now lost eight in a row.
