8/19 – Rays @ Yankees

BASEBALL IN HIGH HEELS: TV ALERT

Gerrit Cole takes the ball for the Yankees, hoping to bounce back from their loss against the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday.

The Rays don’t make winning easy as they quickly get on the board in the second inning with a solo home run by Ji-Man Choi and another solo home run in the third by Mike Zunino. Cole has given up a home run in every start as a Yankee, but this is the first time he’s given up two in the same game.

Luke Voit hammers a home run of his own to the second deck in right field to make the score 2-1 at the end of the third.

Sixth inning, Aaron Hicks rips one to right field and legs it out for a triple, putting him perfect position to score on a sac fly by Gio Urshela. Yankees tie the score 2-2.

Rays come back in the eighth against Zack Britton who replaced Cole for the final out of the seventh. Yandy Diaz reaches first on a ball that bounced off Britton’s glove on a throw by Voit. The ball gets away and Diaz gets to second. He’d move to third on a wild pitch before Brandon Lowe walked. Diaz out at home on a fielder’s choice. However the next two batter’s would get on base and allowing a run to score each time. Jonathan Loaisiga took over and got the next two outs. 4-2 Rays.

Bottom of the ninth, last chance for the Yankees to come back. They started off strong with the first two batters walking before the first out. Rays change pitchers. Miguel Andujar pinch hits and strikes out. A wild pitch moves the runners up. But the comeback was not meant to be as Thairo Estrada struck out.

Rays win 4-2 and the Yankees break their 27 series win streak at home.

They play once again tomorrow.
