The Yankees last played on August 20. Around the conclusion of that game it was announced that the game against the Mets was postponed due to positive Covid-19 tests in the Mets organization. For safety, the entire series was postponed. The game against the Braves that was supposed to take place yesterday, was rained out and is being played as part of today’s doubleheader. Will the long layoff help or hurt the Yankees who reinstated Aaron Judge from the IL for the series.
Game 1
Gerrit Cole is pitching for the Yankees while Ian Anderson is making his Major League debut for the Braves.
Braves strike early with a solo home run by Ronald Acuna in the first inning. He’d walk in the third for Dansby Swanson to bring them both home with another home run. Marcell Ozuna would add another solo shot for Atlanta to lead 4-0.
Anderson while allowing walks, had a no-hitter going against the Yankees into the sixth inning when Luke Voit hit a home run to right field to put the Yankees on the board.
With a pitching change by the Yankees for the inning after Cole allowed a double and a walk, another walk scored for the Braves.
Braves win 5-1.
Games 2
Masahiro Tanaka had the ball for the Yankees this game and Max Fried pitched for the Braves.
The game remained scoreless through the end of the fourth inning. Top of the fifth, Yankees make headway starting with a single and a double to get runners in scoring position. Tyler Wade with a sacrifice fly allowing Miguel Andujar to score.
Chad Green replaces Tanaka in the sixth and Swanson gets a hit followed by a home run by Freddie Freeman to give the Braves the lead. Yankees would be unable to rally in the seventh.
Braves win 2-1.
Judge was replaced in the sixth inning, and according to manager Aaron Boone after the games, he might go back on the IL.
