After high tensions last night, both managers were suspended for tonight’s game. Aroldis Chapman also received a three game suspension, but was appealing and would be available to pitch if needed.
The Rays got off to a hot start with a double, a home run, a single, another home run and a double, bringing the score to 4-0 with a runner on base before the first out. Two strikeouts before catcher interference was called to put another runner on. Nate Lowe walked to load the bases and starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery was yanked for Nick Nelson who got the last out.
However things looked dicey in the second as Nelson walked the first two batters before settling down and getting out of the inning.
A solo home run in the fourth would put the Rays up 5-0.
Ben Heller takes the ball for the Yankees in the fifth, he hits the second batter in the hip. His reaction showed it was accidental, but the umpires ejected him. Luis Cessa quickly warmed up to pitch.
Clint Frazier got the Yankees on board with a solo shot off the left field foul pole in the sixth.
Yankees manage to get a run in the 9th and bring the tying run to the plate, but would be unable to convert.
Rays win 5-2.
